So, I'm changing jobs.

I'm leaving inpatient psych, to go to work in an outpatient psych clinic.
I've never worn scrubs as a nurse. In inpatient psychiatric settings, mental health workers traditionally wear "street clothes." Which for me is usually jeans & and a top.

At my new job, the RN's wear street clothes, but we are to look a little more "professional."
Probably no more jeans.

I hate business clothes.

I always feel like I'm wearing a costume.

But on the bright side, I'm going to be on the phone 90% of the time: no more bodily fluids, or take downs. I can actually wear nicer things.

I've tried and tried to wear button down shirts, and there are some beautiful ones out there that I always admire on others (Steven Alan, anyone? Liberty? ) but they are just not for me. Nor khakis, nor slacks.
So I'm trying to find items that are comfortable- dresses and skirts are what I'm left with (and I think I can sneak in some skinny cords and black jeans).
Cardigans, of course, are always a year- round essential for me...and can make a knit shirt look a little dressier.

The last photo is of a cuff bracelet by jewelry designer Pamela Love.

It's not work related.

I'm just obsessed (but if I had it, I'd probably try to wear it to my new job).

I have until the beginning of October to purchase some new work clothes...suggestions?

(...and with that: Happy Weekend!)

Clare Vivier

Above: Photograph courtesy of C. Vivier

I just received my first VIVIER bag in the mail today.
By local Los Angeles artisan Clare Guerrero Vivier.
I say my first, because I know this won't be my last.
This is her messenger bag in a deep inky blue nubuck.
While I was shooting, I noticed that the seed pod/ fruit from this cactus had turned a similar shade as the bag.

The bag is beautiful. Perfect for transporting items to and from my new nursing job (out-patient clinic-yay!).

Thank-you Clare!

Renilde De Peuter

I lucked out big-time and was able to purchase one of textile artist Renilde De Peuter's pieces. (Top photo)

A pincushion that I'm not sure I'll be able to bear to use as a pincushion, because it is so beautiful.

I love Renilde's use of color, shape, and texture.

If you haven't already, you can see more of her wonderful work at her own blog, and frequently featured on the Mieke Willems Blog.

Corner View: September

The other night it finally felt like fall.
September.
It was my turn to cook...so I reached for this cookbook for inspiration. When I purchased this book, I bought it not only for the recipes, but for the incredible photography as well (also, the author Jeanne Kelley, resides in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of L.A. Very close to my neighborhood. And she raises chickens. And yes, they produced the blue eggs of the book title that are pictured above).

So I ended up making the ultimate fall comfort food: Macaroni & Cheese.
"Baked Ziti with Cauliflower & Cheese" to be precise.
It was sooo good. Even better the next day.

I purchased my copy locally from the Little Flower Candy Co. but you can also find the book here.

Go here for more September Corner Views! Welcome back corner-viewers!

Getting There

Pictured above: Another Slouch Cowl- this time in Oatmeal (WIP) and FO- The "Art Class Smock" in Denim Blue colored shot cotton, printed with the "Etoile" print in Rust & Black. I so much wanted to put a shirt tail hem on this with gussets- but my skills just aren't there yet. Maybe for the next collection. It's more important for me to get the store up & running. My self-imposed deadline for the store opening is around 10/31/09 Halloween (right around my 1 year anniversary for this blog) .

You can take a peek at the shop here.

Hopefully between now and 10/31 I'll have the time to:
a. Have more than 1 of each item for sale
b. Possibly offer international shipping
c. Go up the Central Coast and shoot some of the clothing there
d. This one for sure: Finalize the pricing. I'm not sure about the prices yet. Too high? Too low? So hard to decide...I welcome any (constructive) feedback !

**I meant to add, too- I've done some virtual fall cleaning and deleted/ moved links on my side- bars. If I deleted your link- don't worry- I'm now just "following" your blog via Blogger...it's a lot easier for me to keep track of updates that way!
xo

The Old Ladies Rebellion...

...is a clothing line designed by twenty-something Fanny Karst (pictured above) for the 50+ set.
I love this concept, and I'd wear this stuff now! (Plus- I think the model pictured is gorgeous!)
