Nothing like a good breakfast & a new haircut/color to make a gal feel like a million bucks (oh, & maybe some red lipstick, too)!

Shots from Ashley's felting demo yesterday at the Space 15 Twenty courtyard, and images from IKO IKO's gorgeous installation at the gallery there.
I went with my friend (textile buddy!) Emilyn and we had a great time. Even stopped in this little raw foods cafe (I am usually skeptical about this sort of thing) across the street from gallery and had a delicious seaweed salad and fresh coconut water.
A fun afternoon.

Ashley Helvey will be demonstrating felting techniques this Saturday in Los Angeles as part of IKO IKO's residency at Space 15 Twenty. I'm really excited about this, as I've blogged about Ashley before and it will be great to hopefully meet her in person. I know little about felting as a technique, so this will also be a nice introduction to this artform. If the weather Saturday is anything like it's been the last week or so here- it should be a gorgeous experience!

I can't bear to show you the whole thing all together, because it's so cheesy- too dark & dramatic (and off/ wonky once again)...first self portrait I've drawn in 10 years...

Trying to do a little drawing each day to focus my brain. I feel like it's in scanning mode (too much internet) and I've lost the ability to slow down and focus.
These sketches of clover from our yard are pretty wonky (I'm very rusty and the flowers close up quickly once they are picked) but it's a start...

Wanting to get the heck out of Dodge ;) and get to the desert. I always crave a desert trip around this time of year.

Superfreak.

Anyone who knows me, pretty much knows that I'm a superfreak for all things Mina Perhonen.
When I saw Hiki was selling this book through her store, I snapped it up. Like all of Minagawa's publications, the printing and the design is lovely. This book is bound using a traditional Japanese technique, and comes with it's own slip case. The contents are great as well- featuring images of the designer's textiles, embellishments, articles in English, and quotes from the designer and his team.

I've also been meaning to share this with you for a while- images from a CD that my brother in law Alex and his girlfriend Satoko brought back from Japan for me featuring the Mina Perhonen F/W 2010-11 collection. A single model is featured throughout, wearing MP, lounging and moving quietly through spare, modern interiors. Very pretty- sorry my iPhone photos of my computer screen don't really do the video justice.

Also for kicks- I have an extra copy of this issue of So-En which is really beautiful- featuring both Mina Perhonen and Liberty, which I am giving away to the first person who leaves a comment under this post :)
