Fire In The Sky

Last night's sunset.

After our heat wave, we had a little storm cell pass through. It didn't really give us any precipitation, but it sure was pretty. At least two of my friends posted images of this natural event. It's nice to know people are still moved by things like this. I even saw one of the skateboarding teenagers in our street taking pictures on his cell phone :)

Are you sick of this print yet? I was curious to see what Jenny's Wiksten Pattern looked like in a knit fabric. Plus I had to go to another event and needed something to wear (actually didn't end up going...Tomory has been sick, and we were exhausted from the heat-- it was 113 degrees here on Monday) ! This is again the lengthened version of the dress. I left the armholes and hem raw (edged in a zig-zag stitch), and the neck line is finished in the same way as this ERMIE blouse from the Summer.

This fingerless glove/mitten project is so cute, though. The color combinations are great.

Photos from the last days of Summer.

Trying to wrap up the end of the year ERMIE collection, and I've started work on Spring 2011 textile designs...which will make an appearance in a future post, soon. I went on a hike today at Ernest E. Debs Park...great workout, beautiful views of Highland Park and Downtown L.A. and far less crowded than going to Griffith.

Not sure when I will be fully back in this space but in the meantime for your enjoyment- Still in awe over Jeana's beautiful post on HBT.

OK.
So, I'm pretty lousy about this taking a break from the blog thing, but I made this dress today and wanted to show you!
I have to go to this event tonight with Tomory, and I am trying to be better about sharing what I do with people.
The last two weekends I wore this dress out to Carlee's opening and to a friend's BBQ respectively.
In the past, when we go to social events, I reach for Mociun, Lina Rennell, or Rachel Comey to wear. Sometimes it comes up in conversation that I am designing textiles. Then people ask me if I designed the dress I am wearing, and I have to tell them "No, it's by...(Mociun, Ms. Rennell, RC...etc)"

Now I can say YES! I made this!

At least partially...in this case...the fabric is my design-the Organic Cotton Sateen "Fire Season" Print (GREAT fabric to sew with) and the dress design is attempt # 3 at Jenny Gordy's Wiksten pattern.

Alright, now I am really going! Have a great weekend!

Browsing...came across this beautiful dress by United Bamboo.

My friend Amber and I talk/wonder about this a lot: This is a $700 + dress. It's been up on the Totokaelo site for a few days, and it's already sold out in sizes 6 & 8. I'm curious who is buying such dresses? What do they do for a living? Where do they wear the dress to- a special event? For everyday wear? Do they wear it just once, or multiple times? (I'm not trying to be judgmental...I am honestly curious!)

More important- how do I get these women to spend money on my textile designs ;) ?
