Well, it's the last day of 2008. The last few days have been quite difficult as I have a family member in the hospital who is seriously ill.
It's hard to remember in moments like these that life can be good, and beautiful.
I have found that baking is therapeutic for me, much like making art, or craft.
So I made these funky looking cookies last night (they taste good!) . They will be going with me to a small party, where I will be celebrating the coming New Year with some of my closest friends.
xo, Happy New Year's Eve, all. More tomorrow in 2009 !

These first three images are Christmas cards designed by Tomory's brother Alex (caution: adult content on his webpage) - who is a talented artist in his own right:

From John and Yoko:
I've put this up in one of the windows of our house for the past few years around each Christmas time.

Peace on Earth

This will be my last post for the old year. Happy Holidays everyone, and thanks to you all for your encouraging words and taking the time to look at this little blog. It has been a pleasure to meet so many creative people via the blogging world this year.
Wishing you all health and happiness: see you in 2009!

Okay, this is the knitting I have to finish by the 25th!

Finished Object : A Christmas gift

Not the best photographs: it was a very grey day when I took them.
Now the scarf is all wrapped up under the tree...so no re-shoots, but you get the idea. Still trying to complete one more scarf before the 25th. I hate to say it but I'm a little burnt out on knitting!

After the rain: some pictures from our yard.

Looks like springtime in December.

Yesterday I made Mrs. Ruth Corwin's Cranberry Pie.
It's super easy and super delicious. The recipe is included in Feast,
a lovely little book by Lena Corwin and Maria Alexandra Vetese.
Maria's photographs are as wonderful as ever, and I love Lena's pairing of her photographs with her drawings.
The book is a limited edition of 300 and is available for purchase here.

Got myself a present for Christmas:
The Winter Scarf by Christy Berry for Wiksten.

I haven't learned to weave (yet!). This scarf is so well made, and classic...I look forward to wearing it for years to come.

Lemons left over from breakfast. I love the light at this moment. This photo also happens to remind me of this one by Ritva.

My favorite Christmas ornament:

If you haven't already, please check out Hanna Konola's
Advent Calendar.
Such a nice treat for each day.

Visited the new Heath Ceramics store this weekend.

They were serving free coffee, tea, and cookies to shoppers, which I thought was very nice.

Tomory and I were on the West side of L.A. yesterday looking at art.

Enjoyed a video installation by Chris Wilder at Kim Light Gallery:

Also very much enjoyed the Rachel Whiteread show at Gagosian:

As we were looking at the exhibit, Tomory noticed art star Takashi Murakami in the gallery...that's him above in the puffy coat & camouflage bag .

My favorite work of the day was Paul P.'s at Marc Selwyn Fine Art.
The work was delicate and masterful all at once...wonderful drawings, paintings, and prints.

All photographs of Paul P.'s work courtesy of Marc Selwyn Fine Art

Last but not least...a little friend that we found while looking at the art in Culver City.

A visual response/ tribute to a post by Ritva.

Cashmere yarn from Jade Sapphire that will soon become something else that will soon become another gift for someone...
