Arts ReSTORE LA: ERMIE x Weltenbuerger Pop Up!

ERMIE is pleased to announce that we have been invited along with Weltenbuerger to create a Pop-Up Shop for The Hammer Museum’s Arts ReSTORE LA: Westwood! Our Shop will feature the work of over 40 artists and designers from Los Angeles and California, across the United States, and various international locales. Workshops and multimedia events will also be part of the Pop-Up.

This project aims to re-energize Westwood Village with the creative force of local Angeleno artisans and craftspeople. From November 1st to 24th, the Hammer will fill select empty storefronts, donated by the property owners to this project, with an array of artisan vendors. With its accompanying events and workshops, the Arts ReSTORE pop up village will provide the neighborhood with a new retail experience. For more information on Arts ReSTORE LA: Westwood, including operating hours, a directory of participants, and a list of events, go to ArtsReSTORE.LA

French Woad/ Bleu De Lectoure

One of the most enjoyable parts of traveling within a foreign country, is exploring it's local crafts. In France, outside of Toulouse, we had the opportunity to visit Bleu De Lectoure, a workshop that uses woad (the plants pictured in image #2, above) to produce textiles and other goods.

Woad was a huge industry in this area, long ago, before indigo was introduced from the far east. Now, only a handful of workshops and artisans use woad, but like indigo and other natural dyes, appreciation of and applications for this art form is growing.

French Impressions

We just returned yesterday from a trip to Southwest France (Toulouse, Auch, Preneron), to see my brother in law marry. It was so lush and beautiful, the French countryside in late summer. More images to come next week...it's good to be home!
