"It's not where you take things from, it's where you take things to." -Jean-Luc Godard

I just returned from my friend Joanna Williams' lovely new office feeling mega-inspired! I finally viewed some of the textiles, clothing and prints she brought back from her recent travels to Morocco & Paris. I purchased a couple of Berber textiles (image #3) that are just stunning. Equally inspiring- and not pictured here -were the botanical paintings, vintage wallpaper samples, and lithographs that Joanna acquired from a Parisian flea market.
Kneeland Co. is Joanna's company which provides visual resources & inspiration for artists and designers in the form of art, textiles, clothing, jewelery and objects that she sources from around the world. Joanna also designs her own original (beautiful!) embellishments (images # 2, 7) that may be purchased as well.
I always love my time spent with Joanna and looking through the Kneeland archives. I come away from our visits feeling renewed-- filled with positive energy and an eagerness to get down to business & create.

Go here for more information and schedule an appointment! Thanks Joanna! xx

Scenes from the last few days.

1-4: First al fresco dining of the season...we had our friend Jay over for a little BBQ.

5-7: As much as I love, love my new camera...I still like the camera on my iPhone a lot.
The color and the quality of light are different- and it's more discreet to use in public places.

9,10: A little furoshiki action to wrap a friend's 40th b-day gift (a really nice bottle of whiskey) using a misprinted scrap (the printer basically omitted the yellow ink) of the ERMIE Bead Print.

Last two: Proof Bakery...the cherry turnover was awesome- tart, with just a tiny bit of sugar.

This is the sort of thing I'd usually post on my Tumblr (my virtual mood board), but I haven't done a post like this in a while on this blog- so what the heck. I've been loving the Resort '12 collections. It's nice to see that bold color combinations, print mixing, and the use of digital prints (mirror repeats!) are still in fashion. All good news for me :)

In fact, I've been enjoying all of the Resort collections so much, I've started to work on ERMIE S/S '12. I'm feeling watery, blown-out colors, peaches paired with violets and aqua. Using snapshots of botanical specimens and manipulating them to the point of geometric abstraction. Wish I could show you some images that I've come up with so far- but I have a backlog of designs that I need to copyright first.

What are y'all feeling right now?
Do tell!
Have a great weekend!
xo

Textiles, prototypes for F/W '11:

I am being subliminally influenced by my surroundings!

"I like to put things up around my bed all the time, pictures of mine that I like and other things and I change it every month or so. There’s some funny subliminal thing that happens. It isn’t just looking at it. It’s looking at it when you’re not looking at it. It really begins to act on you in a funny way."

I've been really enjoying walks with my friend Emilyn lately...
so nice to chat, see parts of the neighborhood that I don't usually see, and getting some much needed exercise & sun.
