Saturday Night Dinner

Listening to Jonathan Gold talk about Lebanese Food, we were inspired to make our own middle- eastern/Mediterranean influenced meal Saturday night.

Tomory grilled a rack of lamb marinated in lemon juice, garlic and fresh herbs from our garden- oregano, rosemary, thyme.
I made a salad with romaine lettuce from the garden & peppers, feta, olives, oil & vinegar and a side dish of couscous cooked in chicken stock with roasted pine nuts, dried sour cherries, and mint (from our garden).
Hummus & pita on the side. We drank a red wine (Tolosa 2007 Pinot Noir) from SLO.
So, so good!

Our bellies were full. A perfect spring feast.

Love Color

These Matta Dupatta Scarves are very chic in neutrals, but for me, I love color! These tones remind me of springtime flowers.

More love here.

House-bound the past 3 days. Trying to get over a nasty viral infection.
Walked around the yard briefly today, trying to get some Vitamin D.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Martha McQuade: Spring 2010

All Images Courtesy of Martha McQuade UNIFORM Natural

Wow! Martha is one busy and amazing lady: Teacher, Architect, Designer, Mother: look at all the work she's done on her Spring 2010 Collection.
I love it when you come across someone's work, and it inspires you to create (as opposed to making you jealous). Martha's work does that for me.

More on Martha from her online workbook:

"Trained as an architect, Martha McQuade lives and works in Minneapolis, MN where she teaches architecture, designs clothing, makes buildings, takes photographs, writes about process + design, and is always looking for phenomena + beauty."

Corner View: Showing Your True Self (by candlelight)

This week's CV- to choose a favorite theme we posted on from the past year, and re-post upon that theme. I chose Showing Your True Self. All the pictures above are taken (mostly) by candle light- which is supposed to be one of the most flattering types of light- so am I really showing my true self?

First, second photos: Taken in the bar at the Sanderson in London. Lots of (smoke and) mirrors and candle light.

Third: Tomory in a pensive moment at the same bar. Very "him."

Fourth: Tomory at his reception dinner in London. Also very "him." So which is his true self? Both? Neither?

Fifth: Self Portrait by candle light. I think I look pretty good here. Disheveled. But good. When I took this I was trying to channel Mapplethorpe. His intensity. So is this really me?

6th: Also me. On my Birthday last year. Looking quite goofy. Not really a flattering picture. But also a very "me" photo.

If I was being totally honest with this post, I'd show my self as I am right now- coughing like a maniac. Sick! Again. With piles of used tissues all around me.

But that would be gross.

Happy Anniversary CV.

Hooray for Jane for putting it all together!!

Isabel Marant and Marant Lite

Above: Marant Fuso Vest.
Below: Marant Peru Jacket.

Both images via Net-a-Porter.

Above: Isabel Marant pants.
Below: A similar style from J.Crew.

Above: Isabel Marant knit pants.
Below: J.Crew's version.

Last year in Paris, I visited one of Isabel Marant's boutiques. I'm not gonna lie: I'm as smitten with her & her designs as the next gal. I wanted everything in the boutique, but walked away with nothing- at the time I decided it was too expensive (it still is). Erica's recent post had me again considering investing in one of her pieces: like the Fuso Vest (1st pic) or Peru Jacket ( 2nd image).

I thought I'd share some of my Marant-esque finds with you. J.Crew has a few pieces right now that are very Marant (you know Jenna Lyons and her design team are Marant fans).
J.Crew has a slouch pant that is styled very in a similar manner to Marant's relaxed paper-bag waisted styles this spring. They also have these knit pants that are a knock-off of Marant's. I also really like these linen cotton tees that appear to be modeled after Marant's tees.

The last photo is a Marant jumpsuit that I adore (love that crazy print)- but really don't know if I could pull off.

Sigh. I've got a major Marant crush, and I've got it bad. Silliness on a Monday...
is there anyone you have a fashion crush on?
