Tomory's dealer Alison represents Robert Mapplethorpe in London. I think while Tomory is installing his show (the opening is 3/25/10...stop by!) I'll ask her if I can see some of Mapplethorpe's pieces.
We will be staying in a flat in Bloomsbury. Any sightseeing/dining/ shopping suggestions are welcome & encouraged.
I think Patti Smith looks amazing in these photographs. Admittedly, she is extremely skinny- on- the- emaciated- side of- the- spectrum- skinny in these images (she & Mapplethorpe would actually go for stretches of time without anything to eat, because they were so poor) but I'm not really talking about that. What I'm talking about is more in the hair, the eyes, her presence. Robert Mapplethorpe (R.I.P.) is pretty easy on the eyes in these pictures as well!
So I mixed up this week's post with last week's post.
This past Sunday we had coffee & breakfast at Le Petit Beaujolais. There is a big Beaujolais: Cafe Beaujolais, which is not actually all that big. It's a small French restaurant, which serves consistently good food, at reasonable prices. Their escargot, duck, and halibut are all excellent; their veggies are always delicious. Petit Beaujolais is also very good- nice omelets and breakfast sandwiches, and their croissants, oh their croissants(the dark chocolate filled one that is pictured above was a bit of an anomaly- kind of shaped more like a brioche...it was still delicious) !

Above: Just absolutely in love with this dress designed by KaoriYamazaki and AyaShiraishi, featuring a hand-painted print detail by Shiraishi.
Below: More of Yamazaki's work, which can also be seen here & here . It takes skill to make items that look so simple, yet remain interesting- you get the sense that her designs are distilled down to only the elements that she feels are absolutely essential.
