Zabriskie Point

I am dreaming of a road trip to the desert. Maybe to Desert Hot Springs, Palm Springs, or 29 Palms. Maybe to Death Valley!
Tomory and I haven't been there since 2004, but ever since we made that visit,we've wanted to go back.

Above are two photos we took at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley, 2004.

Below:
Stills from the Antonioni film "Zabriskie Point" (1970)
and a LOOK magazine Cover featuring the film's two protagonists.

Tomory and I watched this recently together. He has seen it before, but I had never seen the entire film.
The film overall is fairly hokey & dated with terrible dialogue, but it has it's cinematographic moments: especially the last 10 minutes or so where Daria, the female lead, pictures all manner of objects blowing -up over and over again in her mind- all to a Pink Floyd soundtrack.

You can watch some low-quality video of this on YouTube, but if you have the time and inclination, you should really see the film (recently released on DVD) just for the ending.

And also for Daria's dress/outfit.

An army-green linen, button-front belted number. I'm tempted to recreate it and wear it on our next desert trip.

Weekend Finds: Unatti Foundation, Tina Petra, Clare Vivier

Photograph directly above: courtesy of the Unatti Foundation

Top & last photo: Combed Yak Wool Wraps from The Unatti Foundation: A non-profit organization dedicated to providing food, shelter and education to orphaned and underprivileged children of Nepal.

I bought a striped one (2nd to last photo) as a Christmas gift for someone- they are incredibly soft and warm and come in the most radiant assortment of colors. Only $55.00 and for a good cause.

I received two early Christmas gifts : an insane necklace from jeweler Tina Petra from my husband (also 2nd to last photo), and (I won!) a Clare Vivier Wrist Wrap from Joslyn's blog (thank-you Joslyn and Clare!).

A nature break from all of the commercial stuff: what winter looks like in Los Angeles.

Corner View: Evening

Evening is not my friend, lately.
It is too dark and goes by too quickly.

My sewing machine mocks me in the evening: "Why aren't you working on me?"

I guess I'm not ready for the winter.

I miss the evenings of summer. Sitting on our back patio, the sun not yet set at 8pm, eating tomatoes off the vines from our garden, and drinking cold wine.

Click here for more evenings (that are hopefully more cheerful than mine).

Marañón

What can I say? Camille tipped me off to Lorena's work.

Wow.

Works of art.

Love the pom-poms neck warmer, just by itself, hanging on the wall.

This does not help me with my necklace addiction.
