little

I've been working on some baby clothes as gifts for a couple of couples who had little girls recently!
Made from scraps of Ave. 51, and an ERMIE S/S print that didn't make it into the collection.

I made a version of this kimono before. It's a quick & satisfying little project.

Lest my readers start to think that I'm perfect (I am FAR from that dear readers...the blogging world can be so darn edited sometimes) I wanted to show you a little patchwork I had to perform the kimono: I must have cut through the shoulder of the garment when I was pinking some raw edges of the seams- resulting in a tiny hole, repaired with a teeny, tiny patch. I think it's probably the smallest, cutest patch I have ever laid eyes on. I didn't want to scrap the whole project just because of a little hole. Plus, the repair reminds me of boros, which is appropriate to this garment, so I like that.

The other images are of perhaps the most psychedelic baby dress in existence (the recipients parents are artists, so I don't think they'll object) ! Shades of Morris Louis, no?

I would totally wear that dress if were in my size! In fact: I often feel that way about children's clothing. For instance, perusing the the Crewcuts catalogs- I usually find myself wishing that they made the featured styles in adult sizes. I'm not sure what that says about me, but there you have it.

I guess I am still "little" at heart!

Such a beautiful bit of patchwork it is too... just an added little bit of love I think :) LOVE the second dress too.. colours are amazing!! You are so right... kids get to wear the bestest, craziest, most colourful clothes and get away with it... So wish I could too!!! I think it's so funny that they have no idea how lucky they are... I love the crazy outfits they insist on wearing... soooo percious! Great post <3

That kimono is just killing me! What a lucky--and stylish--little person! Thanks for sharing the tiny patch photo; I can't imagine having to toss out the whole project just for one little hole.

I'm with you on the crewcuts lust; there are so many stylish options for the younger set nowadays. Back in my day we only had Health-tex, Garanimals, et al.

LOVE! I wish that I would have done more sewing while pregnant. I mistakingly thought that I would have time afterward .... now my little man is about one and I still have a pile of patterns. The dress looks perfect.

I love kids' clothes in adult styles. I love adult clothes in kids' styles even better (I see kids in the best outfits all the time and the first thing I think is - I wish that were available in adult sizes)! That placement of the pattern in the dress is really nice.

You have no idea how pleasing it is for me to read that you sometimes make mistakes like accidentally cutting through the garment! It makes me feel much better about my own (frequent) mistakes in clothes making.

i agree about the crewcuts, kids can look pretty stylin' these days.
i haven't sewn any clothes yet, but my next project will be some little bloomers made from gingham and tie dye for our little one- to-be.

Those baby clothes are adorable - I totally believe you have a market for them, should you decide to sell. (hint) And I agree with crewcuts - my daughter has a fabulous wardrobe because of that store and I am quite jealous.
