Alyssa A.Wood

Above: All images courtesy of Alyssa A. Wood

Is a knitwear designer and illustrator. I had the pleasure of encountering her wonderful work when I was in NYC. Our friend Tina (who is an amazing jewelry designer that I hope to post about in December when she comes to L.A. for a trunk show) was hosting a holiday sale that included Ms. Wood's work. I snapped a couple photos at the sale, but they don't really do justice to her work. She had luscious knit shawls, skirts, jackets, and hats. My funds were unfortunately running low at that point! Take a look at her website.

This woman is one to watch!

Shopping Report

My N.Y.C. purchases from Maryam Nassir Zadeh:

1. Quilted Vintage Jacket from the wardrobe department of Universal Studios.

Who knows what movie it may have possibly been used in?!?

It reminded me of Isabel Marant's Spring 2009 Collection, I purchased it to wear and for inspiration for future textile designs.

2. Below: Lauren Manoogian Necklace.

Yes, it's made of paper clips wrapped in aluminum (I think). I love it!!

I've been wanting to share this photo ( Natsumi, I hope you don't mind! ).

Natsumi & Me at Tomory's opening at CRG .

She's looking lovely in one of my cowls ( but she'd look equally lovely without it ) , I'm wearing the L. Manoogian Necklace with my new Mociun Dress from Beklina .

If there is one thing I regret about my N.Y.C. trip, it was that I was sick and didn't feel up to spending more time with Natsumi :(

Maryam Nassir Zadeh

Just might be the best store ever. *

It is truly unique what Maryam Nassir Zadeh and her fiancé, Uday Kak have done with this space.

The objects and clothing are displayed like the works of art they are, yet none of it feels stuffy or pretentious. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it is obvious that Maryam and Uday take pride in and enjoy what they do.

This is the store I ended up taking Judi to (see yesterday's post) and she thoroughly enjoyed it...which made me very happy. It was the one store that I really wanted to see in NYC.

Out of everything in the whole store I ended up purchasing a necklace by Los Angeles based artist and jeweler Lauren Manoogian, as well as a vintage patchwork jacket from the wardrobe department of Universal Studios! (photos to follow soon)

Just goes to show you can take the girl out of L.A. ...

Judi Roaman-The Accessorator (& John Derian)

The Accessorator at work.

Above and below: at John Derain

Below: Hunter. The perfect accessory for the Accessorator.

Another high point of my NYC trip was getting together with Judi Roman- The Accessorator!

I've blogged about Judi before, and have had the chance to visit with her in NYC, but this was our first time together one -on-one.

Judi is an incredible woman. She has excellent taste, an exquisite eye, and possesses a wealth of knowledge on the the subjects of fashion, art, design , and retail.

We decided to visit a couple of shops together. She took me to John Derian- which I had never visited before. So much eye candy in his shops!

I then took her to a store of my choosing, which I'll post about tomorrow.

Read Judi's blog entry on the visit to John Derian here.

Thank-you Judi! I had a great time!

One of the high points of going to New York City is being able to see what my artist friends are up to, and visit their studios.

T & I went to see Jessica Dickinson's work at her studio in Brooklyn.

She recently had a show (August- September at James Fuentes LLC), and she had several new works in progress in her studio. Jessica is one of the most thoughtful and hardest working people I know, and she is always engaged in something interesting.

Visit her website, there are many striking & wonderful works to view there.

Corner View: Favorite Dish: Bar Tano Bklyn

Okay, okay, so this isn't in Los Angeles, but this weeks Corner View gives me a chance to tell you more about my NYC trip.
So. There I was in Brooklyn. We had just met up with Marc and Jessica for studio visits. We were all in need of a nosh.
M+J suggested a little place near their studio: Bar Tano

I had a low-grade fever and needed some serious comfort food. I ordered the Spaghetti al Pomorodo.
It came with home-made meatballs and grilled bread.
Fresh Basil. Freshly grated Parmesan.
It hit the spot.
Completely.
I felt better, revived. Restored. Less feverish.
Coincidence?

I think not.
