Corner View: Staple Foods

Right now our staple food is the tomato. Our plants in our garden are producing rapidly, so we eat them just about every day. This is a Green Zebra tomato. This is what it looks like when it's ripe. They are delicious- they taste a little different from a regular tomato- sort of like a kiwi fruit, but not as sweet.

  1. now that is one gorgeous tomato! i tried growing heirloom tomatoes in my upside down planter, but only managed to harvest a single tomato last summer! deck gardening is tricky when you don't get consistent sunshine. we had better luck with the bell peppers.

  8. Natsumi,
I'll try to save you some seeds & mail them to you so you can grow them next year. They are sooo good!

fuoriborgo: We have been eating them like a regular tomato. A few nights ago, we took these Zebras, some Brandywines, and San Marzano tomatoes from our garden, diced them, combined them with a little sugar, salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon juice to taste, tossed the mixture over al dente cappelini, added fresh chopped basil & parmesan reggiano cheese...so good!
