You may have noticed that the work in my most recent collections has been focusing on hand dyed textiles, especially those using tie dye techniques. I learned the art of tie dyeing from my mom when I was a child growing up in the 70's and 80's. I also credit Shabd Simon- Alexander with opening my eyes to the possibilities of modernizing this ancient craft, and using it in new and vital ways. I had the pleasure of taking an introduction to Fiber Reactive Dyes class with Alexander, (who is an excellent teacher), about a year ago at Oooga Booga, here in Los Angeles.
To celebrate the immanent release of the entirety of ERMIE Collection 2, 2013, I am giving away a copy of Shabd's recently published book, Tie-Dye- Dye It, Wear It, Share It.
People often ask me what resources I recommend as an introduction to some of the various techniques I use, and I can finally say that this is the perfect book for that purpose! It's bright, beautifully designed, easy to understand, colorful, informative and inspiring.
I will draw the name of one winner at random, & announce it here on 8/15/13. I will send the book to the winner, free of charge to anywhere in the world.
Good luck, and thank you to Shabd, and Potter Craft, and Random House for making this give-away possible!
xx

So many where to choose. Thanks Jen for the great post. I would like to explore dying natural blended fabrics, that have mixes of wool and cotton and silk. I had a a dying accent a year back that gave me this idea. I was trying to do a solid dye and the fabric was a blend and it came out with a beautiful heathering effect.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to explore that further. xx Angelina (aka lina rennell)

I did a collection for an university project last year that was based on dying with natural products, such as wine, curcuma, tea... I got some very interesting shades.
