Ermie, 1942

1942Ermie 1

My cousin Mickey (thanks Mickey!!) sent me this scan of a drawing of my Great Aunt Ermie, drawn in 1942 by (from what he could tell written on the drawing) a Frances Schoonover Kiburg.

I couldn't find anyone with that name via a quick Google search, but I did find a
Frances E.Schoonover. Born in December of 1885 in Iowa, who married a man by the name Burt Kiburz.
Has to be the same person! I wonder how my Great Aunt and Frances knew each other? Were they neighbors? Friends? I wish I knew more...

On a completely different note--I received some more samples back. I'll try my best to post some more sneak peeks this week, and get some new sale items up on the Sale page!! I have a ton of meetings this week, taxes I'm trying to finish up, and several projects I'm working on...plus trying to prepare for a couple of upcoming trips! AaaH.
All good, but why do the days have to pass so quickly?

It was a busy, busy weekend! Filled with children's birthday parties, art viewing (Hadley Holliday, Urs Fischer, and Mike Kelley), and music listening (Cate Le Bon at McCabe's).

These pics aren't the greatest: I had two cocktails before I took photos at Hadley's opening--fun--but it does not make for a steady hand or concentrating on what settings I'm using. Oops.
I wish I could have taken clearer photos at the Cate Le Bon show too. Photography was not allowed (lame), and I had to quickly sneak these shots. I need to improve my spy photography techniques!

Pics 1,2: Our wedding present from Hadley & Thomas
3,4,5: Photos I took at Hadley's home & studio in July of last year.

I mentioned this already this week-- but after seeing Heather's and Giovanna's posts this morning, I thought I'd mention it again! If you are in Los Angeles this weekend, definitely try to make it to Hadley's opening at Taylor De Cordoba tomorrow night!
I'll see you there!

Daylight Savings time begins in just a couple of weeks, and the Vernal Equinox is less than a month away. Springtime is already here in Los Angeles (70+ degree weather here the last couple days)! These blue-toned ERMIE pieces (available at A.Cheng) have me thinking of bright blue skies, crocus flowers, wild violets, bluebirds, winter ice melting and becoming clear blue streams. What are you looking forward to this Spring?

It got a little warmer, so on with the Raku Print Pencil Skirt & Skinny Strap Tank. (pics 1-3)
Pic 4: Skinny Strap Tank worn with the Raku Print Short Skirt.
Pic 5: Skinny Strap tank worn with a favorite old pair of J.Crew matchsticks that I can finally fit back into!
Images 6-9 Show the lining of the Raku Print Pencil Skirt & Skinny Strap Tank. As I mentioned yesterday, the bodies of these garments are 100% Belgian Linen and they are lined with 100% Washed silk. The Print on on the silk is called Light of California and was so named after this video.

All garments are part of the upcoming ERMIE SS '12 Collection.
I hope you are enjoying these little peeks!

Late afternoon backyard indigo dye session. The idea is to make some simple tank tops, jackets, maybe skirts for the SS '12 collection out of hand dyed (indigo) linen. Real indigo is such a gorgeous color, and fades so beautifully over time.

Thanks everyone who has entered so far for the sale items. Your enthusiasm is so wonderful! It makes me happy to offer my clothing at prices that are a bit more affordable.

"Making the lamps are to me making a sculpture. I cannot "mass produce" them, nor do I want to."

"So much of what I do I feel is collecting. Even the way I learn to do it,
(it) is a collection of mistakes and breakthroughs."

- YHBHS: Jason Koharik in conversation with David John.

Some outtakes from the shoot I did for my friend David John's wonderful blog, You Have Been Here Sometime . It was a pleasure to shoot Jason Koharik's beautiful & thoughtful work. Thank you David & Jason!
